Mission and Objectives

Mission

  • The FL-C LSRCE’s mission is to become a transformative research and training center to enhance STEM education by developing, testing and disseminating intervention that reduce the impact of social psychological barriers and to enhance students’ mindsets in the face of academic challenges.

Objectives

  • Host an annual conference on psychosocial interventions that provides faculty with access to the research-based STEM-focused interventions and training on the importance of faculty feedback and interaction on student success.

  • Utilize the STEM-Central hub. This project will provide access to information about psychosocial interventions that overcome factors disproportionately impacting URMs in STEM fields. The hub will feature presentations on the impact of interventions at participating institutions and webinars that spotlight successful interventions in the K-20 STEM community to promote widespread dissemination of successful work.

  • Partner with Brookhaven National Lab and others to provide internships for STEM faculty to increase their expertise.

  • Conduct rigorous research and assessment on the interventions to meet standards for publication in refereed journals and assist participating institutions in data analysis and interpretation.
